Beauty and the Beasts
The last episode of Garulfo arrives at last, and concludes the serie quite well. All plots are closed, Romuald and Garulfo get their own bodies back, and Héphylie gets a prince charming. You can guess all that from the cover already - and also from the fact that all fairy tales have a happy ending. That's also the basic problem of this album.
As you *know* from the start that everything will be concluded well, there is nothing much to hope suspense-wise left. Garulfo somehow manages to win the tournament, but Héphylie has already left to the ogre castle. Once there, the story is almost over, but for a crisis of rage from the ogre, who couldnt understand why all these knights seemingly came to kill him for the princess.
What's more, most pages of this album are void of any text, or contain very little of it. This makes for a fast, too fast reading. Of course, the drawings are always nice to detail, but what's left of the story unfolds at high speed.
So, in the end, having the conclusion of a truly marvelous serie is rewarding in itself, but it seems there wasnt enough material left to sustain the quality a whole album.
