Thorgal
Another comics' "dream team" achievement, Thorgal is essential. Last son from the stars, adopted by vikings, loved and hated by gods and people, his courage, generosity make up for a hero archetype.
The best books, from number 9 to 13, are worth the whole serie, and are a rare epic. With the genius and precise drawings of Rosinski, and the storytelling talent of Van Hamme, the success is exceptional.
But such a success can become padded in the search for more and more sales. Whe the author gets asleep, and the cartoonist take a pen for another, everything goes wrong. From 4 or 5 books (apart from "La Couronne d'Ogotaï", moving on from the central epic), its all worse and worse. The scenarios get thin before the end, the drawings are approximate and even dreadful !
I thought the serie would end around the 20th book, after Thorgal lost his memory, on a glorious ending, standing up to "Au-delà des Ombres". The only other viable option could have been the story centering around Jolan, Thorgal going in the background. But I forgot the choice to stretch every little idea, too commercial to even be compared to a simple but great "Maitre des Montagnes"...
So Thorgal is more and more deceiving, and I stopped buying it altogether, only reading them in bookstores, hoping for a rewrite. Another choice could be a break, it often happened for other comics, take the time to get a real story, and question the future.
