Two weeks in Moscow

page 1 - page 2 - page 3

In front of St Basil, the landmark of Moscow is the Kremlin and the Red Square, of course. There's not that many people, as most of the Square was closed to pedestrian, for fear of terrorists (or capitalists).
The Red Square should actually be named the "Nice" Square, there was a mismatch in the translation from russian. Well "Red" is suitable, with the Kremlin walls and the former flag, of course.

On the left of the shot is one of the numerous policemen walking the city. But they couldnt prevent a terror blast two days later a few blocks from here.

A few views of the western walls of the Kremlin, with the yellow buildings inside.

This here is the memorial to the second world war.

A kind of ... "thing" for each of the major battles of the war, here for Kiev, which isnt a russian town anymore. I couldnt find Stalingrad, strangely.

Mounted policeman, and policewoman ! There's certainly a worse job around.

Walking across the Kremlin takes a really long time, perhaps 40 minutes. It is much bigger than one could think.

This is the eastern and official entrance, meters away from St Basil. Heavily guarded. "Pacport pajalucta !"

And this is the plebian entrance, although formerly the one used by the tsar. The red star is on top of all towers. The snow was starting to fall when I visited the Kremlin, and in the end I feel the photos are all the much better ! It was dreadly cold with a strong wind, I thought I wouldnt last the three hours visit !

We visited the southern part only, this here is a view of the northern part with modern buildings.

The southern part is home to a lot of churches, most of them were used for baptising and wedding tsars, and also for their funerals. One church for each task !

From the place where I took the photo, all churches are around, about 20 meters away.

To finish this visit, some bells, tiny ones...

...and supposedly the largest in the world, which broke a long time ago.
